Pedroza, Salas, Ambat podium on final day of SCIACs

CLAREMONT, CA — Three Leopards finished on the podium and the University of La Verne men's track and field team closed out the 2019 SCIAC Championships.

Kyle Ambat got the day started for the Leopards with a second place finish in the triple jump. The senior finished with a leap of 45-09.75 (13.96m). Ambat finished on the podium in the triple jump in back-to-back seasons.

Matthew Pedroza earned a spot on the podium for the first time in his career. The junior posted a personal record on his way to taking third in the shot put. Pedroza set personal records in all three of his event this weekend - shot put (47-02.5), discus (140-05), and hammer throw (152-00). His mark in the shot put and hammer throw are each rank ninth in La Verne history.

Matthew Salas added a second place finish in the 800m. The La Verne record holder in the event clocked in at 1:52.65 for his first All-SCIAC performance.

The Leopards finished in sixth place overall. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps won the team title.
