Four Cal Lutheran players scored in double figures as the Regals posted a 71-46 victory over the University of La Verne in SCIAC women's basketball action Saturday at Gilbert Arena in Thousand Oaks.
The Leopards were held to 29.4% shooting (15-51) from the field while the Regals made 46.4% (26-56) of their field goal attempts. CLU connected on 9 three-pointers paced by Maya Sotelo who posted 6 triples for the home team.
Cal Lutheran (9-7, 3-2 SCIAC) led 32-19 at halftime as La Verne (5-10, 2-3 SCIAC) made just 4 of its 25 field goal attempts during the first 20 minutes of action. Leading 14-11 with 9:52 remaining in the first stanza, the Regals reeled off 11 unanswered points on their way to a 13-point advantage at intermission.
In the second half, the Regals continued their momentum and maintained their double-digit lead throughout the contest. After Devon Michaels hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit to 13 points at 48-35, CLU went on a 17-0 run to take a 65-35 cushion with 4:13 remaining.
The Leopards outrebounded Cal Lu 38-32, but committed 19 turnovers compared to 8 for the Regals.
Sotelo paced the Regal squad with a game-high 18 points, all on three-point field goals. Erica Whitley, Channing Fleischmann and Brianna Parker each collected 12 points. Kelly Kika led La Verne with 9 points while Mayra Duenas finished with 7 points and a team-high 6 rebounds.
La Verne will continue league action Thursday when it hosts Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at Frantz Athletic Court. Tip-off is 7:30 pm.
