Alex La '03, '05 to participate in Rio Olympic Games

RIO DE JANEIRO — Alex La '03, '05, who played water polo at the University of La Verne from 2001-02 and coached the Leopards' two water polo programs from 2008-14, will be on the coaching staff of the U.S. Olympic Men's Water Polo Team at the 2016 Summer Olympic Games.

La will be in charge of video for the team. He will film all games and categorize video to assist the team's scouting efforts.

The United States is seeking its first-ever Olympic gold medal in men's water polo.

A lifetime Leopard, La played in 2001 and 2002 seasons before earning his bachelor's degree in business administration in 2003 and a master's in marketing in 2005 from La Verne.

La got his start as a coach as an assistant for the men's and women's teams for the 2004-05 season before assuming the role of the Leopards' interim head men's coach during the 2007 campaign. As La Verne's head coach, La mentored four women's and four men's All-SCIAC athletes and 12 total All-Americans.
