Baseball Racks up 15 hits in Win Over Blues

LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne baseball team got hot and the plate and rolled to an 11-4 series-opening win over the Whitman Blues.

Freshman Anthony Salcedo had an incredible day at the dish. The Murrietta native finished with a game-high four RBIs off a pair of hits and a sacrifice bunt. After Leo Rivera hit a sacrifice fly to give Whitman the initial 1-0 lead, Salcedo responded with a bases-loaded double in the second to score Cole McCollum and Christian Killian to put La Verne up for good.

Killian and McCollum both batted 3-5 with a pair of runs. Patrick Keller added two hits and RBIs in the win. The junior brought in both runs in the seventh to extend La Verne's lead to 11-2.

Adam Santa Cruz finished with a pair of doubles, his first was a shot of left-center in the fourth that sent Tanner Siffert home to put the score at 7-1. Siffert finished with two runs, one RBI, and one hit.

Cody Norman was solid in his start, pitching six innings and striking out five while holding the Blues to just four hits and two earned runs.

Matthew Dodd added one RBI and Jacob Benson finished with one run and one hit.

Jerick Nomura led Whitman with three hits and one RBI.

Season Impact

La Verne improves to 7-9 overall and Whitman drops to 4-10.

Next Game

The Leopards finish their series with the Blues tomorrow in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
