PASADENA — University of La Verne forward Saul Uribe was named the SCIAC Male Athlete of the Week for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 7 after scoring three goals in three games to start the season.
Uribe has been instrumental in the Leopards' (3-0-1) undefeated start to the season under new head coach Trevor Persson. The sophomore secured a season-opening win over Arizona Christian on Aug. 30 with a dagger goal in the second half, netted the game winner against Hope International on Sept. 2 just five minutes into the game and sealed a 2-2 draw with Division II Cal Baptist on Sept. 4 with a second half goal.
"Saul has been great," Persson said. "He makes great runs, gets himself into good positions and so far, has been able to find the net. Three goals in three games to start the season is impressive."
Uribe is already more than halfway towards his final goals output in 2013, when showed flashes of brilliance as he finished second on the team with five goals.
La Verne opens SCIAC play tonight at 7 p.m. at Redlands.
