LA VERNE, Calif. — Noelle Cobb had 16 points and four rebounds for the La Verne women's basketball team but the Leopards could not match Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' size and lost 65-50 on Saturday afternoon at Sports Science and Athletic Pavilion.

The Athenas started four players who were 5-foot-10 or taller--including two 6-footers in Claire Donnelly and Kailee Severt--and outmuscled the Leopards inside. CMS outrebounded La Verne 48-29 on the game and the Athenas scored 44 points in the paint to just 12 for La Verne.

Quinn Glosniak posted a double-double for CMS with 10 points and 12 rebounds while dishing out six assists. Kris Brackmann scored a game-high 17 points and Donnelly hauled in 10 rebounds.

The Athenas took control early as they scored the game's first 11 points and led by as many as 16 points in the first half. La Verne didn't go away quietly, though, as it put together a 12-4 run in the second quarter to reduce the deficit to six points.

The Leopards hung tough until early in the fourth quarter. Cobb sank a pair of jumpers to keep the Leopards within seven points with nine minutes left but CMS rattled off a 13-2 run powered by by pair of baskets each from Brackmann and Glosniak to take a 63-45 lead with less than four minutes to go.

Brianna Bishop scored nine points for La Verne and Bailey Kurahashi finished with eight points and four assists.

La Verne falls to 2-20 overall and 2-11 in SCIAC play. CMS improves to 15-8 and 11-3.

The Leopards are back in action on Wednesday at Caltech.
