CLAREMONT — The La Verne Leopards travelled to Claremont on Wednesday, Feb. 2 to take on the Athenas, but fell 82-50.

La Verne kept the game close throughout the entirety of the first half, heading into the locker room down 33-29 after trailing by nine entering the second.

The Leos saw a strong performance from senior Jazzlyn Johnson, who scored 15 points on 6-14 shooting. The guard also got in on the action with the bigs grabbing seven boards, tying La Verne's team high.

Casey Kuramoto provided a nice spark off of the bench as well. Upon checking into the game, Kuramoto knocked down her first two triples, narrowing the Leo deficit from 13 to nine to end the first quarter.

After the loss, the Leos sit at 10-9 and 3-8 in SCIAC, putting them in seventh place. With the win, the Athenas improve to 10-10 and 7-4 and will likely jump to fourth in SCIAC.

The Leos will look to bounce back from the loss against UC Santa Cruz. The Banana Slugs will travel to The Tents to face La Verne on Saturday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
