Leos Take Doubleheader To Complete Sweep Over Caltech

Combining for 46 runs on the day, the University of La Verne took both games of a doubleheader over Caltech by scores of 23-1 and 23-5 to complete a three-game sweep over the Beavers in SCIAC baseball action Saturday in Pasadena.

La Verne cruised to a 23-5 triumph in the first game while taking the nightcap 23-1 to improve to 4-1 on the season and 3-0 in conference play.

In the first game, the Leopards scored five or more runs in three different innings including six runs in the third, eight runs in the fourth and five in the sixth.

Shortstop George Hanna tallied five hits and scored three runs with Jacob Ludvik going 3-5 with three RBI and two runs scored. 

Jason Moralez highlighted the fourth inning with a three-run homer while George Holland also delivered a two-run triple in the frame.

All told, the Leopards produced 24 hits which included 12 extra-base hits with a homer, six triples and five doubles.

La Verne matched its run total in the second game, plating 14 runs on nine hits in the first inning.  Cody Hazel drove in four runs in the top of the first, collecting a two-run single while later belting a two-run triple in the frame.  Hanna and Ross Hebert also hit two-run singles.

In the third, Moralez smacked a two-run single to highlight a five-run uprising to give La Verne a 20-0 lead.  Bryce Roenicke, who finished with three runs and three RBI, hit a two-run homer in the seventh for his only hit in three at-bats.

The Leopards will next head to Anthem, Arizona, to take part in the Arizona Desert Classic beginning with a doubleheader with George Fox on February 16.
