The University of La Verne baseball team earned a doubledheader split with Chapman University, falling in the first game 10-3, before earning a 4-3 walk-off win in the nightcap of a doubleheader Monday night at Hart Park in Orange.

Zach Canfield's walk-off double in the ninth inning led the Leos to a victory in the second game of the twinbill.

La Verne (14-8) and Chapman (9-11) were tied at one after the second inning. The Panthers were able to score two runs in the top of the third off a two RBI single up the middle by Connor Battaglia to take the lead. In the bottom of the inning, a single to left field by Jason Moralez would cut the Leopard deficit down to one run.

The Leopards were able to knot the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning. Canfield hit a single to left center to lead off the inning. After advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Cody Hazel, Jacob Ludvik singled down the right field line to score Canfield.

Heading into the bottom of the ninth with the game tied, Michael Stewart led off with a single to centerfield. George Hanna walked to put two runners on base. It was then that Canfield hit a walk-off double down the left field line for the 4-3 Leopard victory.

Canfield, Ludvik, and Stewart each had two hits and one RBI in the game. The win went to Nathan Rollon who pitched five innings.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Chapman grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and added six runs in the fourth for a 9-0 advantage. The inning was highlighted by a two-run triple by Nick Portillo and a two-run single by Steve Greenberg.

Ludvik got the Leopards on the board in the fifth inning when he hit a single to left field to score George Holland who had reached on a single. With the bases loaded in the sixth, Adrian Franco scored La Verne's second run after reaching on a Panther error.

Chapman was able to score one more run in the bottom of the sixth to take a 10-2 lead. A rally in the ninth would score a third run for the Leos, but it would not be enough, the Panthers would earn the win in a 10-3 final.

Chapman pitcher Travis McGee earned the win after six innings of work. The loss went to Kevin Knight.

La Verne will play host to Kean University on Thursday afternoon. The game will begin at 1:30 pm at Azusa Pacific University.
