The University of La Verne men's soccer team took on the Boxers
from Pacific University at Ben Hines Field Sunday afternoon, but
fell in a 6-0 final.
Kisamua Tsutakawa scored the Boxers' first goal off a Patrick
Murray and Travis Birrell assist. Birrell collected his second
assist on a Mike Iacloucci goal later in the 22nd minute. La Verne
made runs at the goal taking four shots in the first half, but
would trail 3-0 heading into halftime after a Jasem Jaihouni goal
on a penalty kick.
La Verne increased its physical play in the second half, resulting
in three yellow cards (Trujillo, Parada, and Umansor). Fouls hurt
the Leopards as Jaihouni was able to score once on a direct kick
and again on another penalty kick. Ruma Perez's goal from Mike
Kawajiri and Jaihouni would cap off a 6-0 final in favor of
Pacific.
Pacific outshot La Verne 18-8, with freshman Ryan Thompson to make
four saves for the Leopards.
The Leopards will fly out to Pennsylvania next weekend to take on
Franklin & Marshall and Elizabethtown still searching for their
first win of the 2009 season. The first match will begin at 2 pm on
the Sept. 11 against Franklin & Marshall.
