La Verne men's soccer team grabs overtime win

The University of La Verne men's soccer squad notched a thrilling 3-2 overtime victory at Ortmayer Stadium Monday evening.

The Leopards' freshman striker Saul Uribe fired the decisive goal six minutes into extra time to earn the win. La Verne moves to 8-5 overall and 6-5 in the SCIAC while the Sagehens dropped to 5-9-1 and 4-6-1 in league play.

The Leos struck first with a pair of Boye Christiansen (junior, midfielder) solo shots only two minutes apart in the 15th and 17th minutes. Pomona-Pitzer rebounded two minutes later with to bring the score to 2-1 and equalized in the 52nd minute. Both defenses held their ground for the remainder of regulation before the game-winner by Uribe. 

Christiansen stuffed the stat sheet with five shots including four on goal, two goals, and one assist on the final play. Uribe put all four of his shots on target. Freshman goalkeeper Dylan Roberts made two saves.

The Leopards outshot the Sagehens 19-11 and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.

La Verne will return to the pitch Wednesday against Redlands University. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Ortmayer Stadium.
