Another overtime match for Leo men’s soccer squad

LA VERNE- The University of La Verne men's soccer squad was faced with its third overtime period in as many games Monday night, but a 2-1 loss to Whittier College ended a three-match winning streak.

Both teams were held scoreless until midway through the second period. A Whittier corner kick led to a rebound shot in the box to give the Poets a 1-0 advantage in the 64th minute. Leopard senior midfielder David Gonzalez set up freshman forward Saul Uribe for the equalizer in the 81st minute to force extra time. Whittier ended the game with a quick strike less than one minute into overtime.

Uribe led the La Verne offense with four shots while goalie Dylan Roberts made four saves on the night. The Poets held a small advantage in shots (16-14) and corner kicks (5-2).

The Leos return to action for a conference matchup with Occidental College Saturday in Los Angeles, Calif. Game time is set for 11 a.m.
