Host Occidental College topped the visiting University of La Verne men’s tennis team, 7-2, in conference play Saturday afternoon in both squads’ regular season finale.
La Verne falls to 6-12 overall and 2-5 in the SCIAC, while Oxy improves to 9-7 and 4-3, respectively.
At No. 1 doubles, the duo of freshman J.P. Arreglado and junior Alex Muresan claimed the match point by a score of 8-4 over Mike Kuhn and Reid Fenning.
ULV’s pair at doubles No. 3 experienced a heartbreaking loss. Senior Evan Mobley and junior Adrian Laygo came from two breaks down to knot the score at six, but Oxy held on for an 8-6 triumph.
Additionally, the No. 2 doubles combination of senior Mario Backes and junior Richie Delgado suffered an 8-6 loss after being tied at six all.
The Tigers took five-of-six singles matches from the visitors. La Verne’s lone point came from Backes’ two-set win by scores of 6-2, 6-4.
ULV, which earns the six seed at next weekend's SCIAC Championships, competes against No. 3-seeded Cal Lutheran on Friday, April 18, at 9 a.m. in Claremont.
