LA VERNE, CA - Due to rain and flooded fields, the University of La Verne's softball team hosted Chapman University at home for a previously scheduled away conference game.

Both teams contacted for a run in the third inning in a battle of defenses. Haylee Hsieh sacrificed a fly to bring in the first score of the game, getting Clarissa Salazar across home plate.

The Panthers scored at the bottom of the same inning, keeping the game close and tying the game 1-1. The battle continued through the game, and senior pitcher Rachel Rubio faced 29 batters and threw 70 strikes. However, the Panthers had a walk-off win in the 7th with bases loaded, and an earned walk. Leopards fell to Chapman University in the first game of the three game series, 2-1.

The Leopards will continue the series Saturday, May 6th, for Senior Day at Campus West. Games times are scheduled for 12 pm and 2 pm.
