A depleted University of La Verne women's basketball team regrouped to defeat the California Institute of Technology 65-39 in SCIAC action Saturday at Braun Athletic Center.

The win allowed La Verne (16-4, 8-2 SCIAC) to maintain a share of first place in the conference standings with Occidental College, winners over Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

La Verne battled the Beavers without four of its regulars who were sidelined by injury.  Fortunately the Leopards still had Emily Carrillo, who secured a double-double to pace the Leoaprds.  Carrillo posted game-highs of 19 points and 11 rebounds, finishing 7-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 from the free throw line.

The Leopards led 24-13 at the half and pulled away by shooting 66.7% (14-21) after intermission.  Overall La Verne made 25 of its 48 field goal attempts (52.1%) while limiting the Beavers to a 23.2% clip (13-56).

Ashley Paul chipped in with 15 points and 7 rebounds for La Verne while Elizabeth Gonzales and Rachel Gordon added 9 and 8 points, respectively.

La Verne resumes action on Thursday with a visit from California Lutheran University at Frantz Athletic Court.  Tip-off is 7:30 pm.
