LA VERNE - The University of La Verne women's basketball team moved to 5-2 in SCIAC play with a resounding 69-56 win over Whittier College (1-14, 1-6 SCIAC)

La Verne (10-6, 5-2 SCIAC) ended the first half on a jumper by junior Riki Murakami at 0:39 to secure the lead at the break.  Extending the margin to 20 points three times in the second portion, the Leo squad never once let the Poets taste the lead after the initial inbound.

In the opening half, the lead margin only reached eight one time while hovering around three and four for much of the minutes.  But the break was lucrative for the Leopards when they entered into the second half on fire. Senior Lindsey Foster pushed La Verne to the 20 point margin marker the first go around at 7:09.  Foster just missed a double double on the night but led the Leopards with 23 points while recording nine rebounds. Senior Teresa "Yogi" Fatai posted a double double on the night with 13 points and 10 boards.

Up next for the Leopards are the Tigers of Occidental College on January 23rd in La Verne.  Game time is 7:30 PM.
