Senior Shelby Sato led the University of La Verne women's cross country squad with a sixty-ninth place finish at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational Saturday.
The Leopards scored 317 points to take 11th in a field of 12 teams, including multiple NCAA Division I programs. Cal St. San Marcos won the competition only 29 points while Cougars senior Ayded Reyes was first in the 147-runner field with a time of 22 minutes, 5.7 seconds.
The Leopards were without top runner junior Andrea Ramirez as well as junior Sam Reed due to injuries.
The Leopards will be off next weekend before a return to action at the SCIAC Multi-Dual on Oct. 18. The women's race is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at La Mirada Park in La Mirada, Calif.
