PASADENA — Ben White of the University of La Verne baseball team was named to the Academic All-SCIAC Baseball Team on Tuesday after producing a standout season on and off the field.
After missing all of last year due to injury, the sophomore kinesiology major played a key part on the 2014 squad, anchoring the lineup while leading the team in batting average on on-base percentage. White posted .388/.497/.569 on the season while hitting three home runs and driving in 31 runs. White also etched his name in La Verne history books as the first player to hit a home run at the new Ben Hines Field on Campus West on April 12 against Occidental.
To be eligible for selection, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at his current institution, must have completed on full calendar year at his current institution, must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility and must have participated in a minimum of 20 games for a position player and eight games for pitchers during the current season. In the case of transfers graduate students and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed on full calendar year at the nominating institution.
