The University of La Verne fell prey to one of the top individual scoring performances this season as Anderson guard Phil Hogan posted 55 points in leading the visiting Ravens to a 72-68 victory over the Leopards Saturday at Frantz Athletic Court.

The Leopards led the Ravens 36-23 before Hogan began to put on a one-man show in the second half as he scored 43 points after intermission on his way to setting an Anderson school record.  He made 20 of his 30 field goal attempts including going 8-of-12 from three-point range.  He also made all seven of his free throws.

La Verne took its largest lead of the game early in the second half when Vince Bauer hit a layup to give the Leopards a 50-33 cushion with 15:09 remaining. 

The Ravens (5-5) sliced into the deficit as Hogan scored all 18 of his team's points to get Anderson within seven at 58-51 with 8:09 to play.  He would later score eight unanswered points to put the Ravens ahead 62-59 at the five-minute mark.  A layup from Alex Wolpe would put the Leos up 64-62 before Hogan scored the next five points to give the visitors the lead for good at 67-64.

Wolpe and sophomore guard Jourdan Simmonds paced the Leopard attack with 16 points each.  Wolpe finished 8-11 from the field while Simmonds went 6-7 from the free throw line.  Jake Vieth totaled 14 points and 7 rebounds with Bauer contributing 10 points.

For the game, the Leopards shot 48.9% (23-47) from the field and made 79.2% (19-24) of their free throws.

La Verne (1-9) returns to action Monday afternoon as it plays host to MIT in a 2:00 pm tip-off at Frantz Athletic Court.
