Reid Selected As Head Coach For Team USA At World Athletics Championships

INDIANAPOLIS - USA Track & Field announced team staff rosters for six 2023 international teams this afternoon and Head Track & Field Coach Kevin Reid was selected for two of them.  Reid was named the Men's Head Coach for the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary from August 19-27.  In addition to being the overall Head Coach, Reid will also oversee the Jumps and Multis for the men's team.  Team USATF won 33 medals at the last World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, including 13 golds.

Reid was also named Team Manager for the United States team at the 2023 Thorpe Cup in Marburg, Germany from August 12-13.  The Thorpe Cup is an international track and field competition between USA and Germany. Teams are composed of up to seven men and seven women who compete in the decathlon and heptathlon.

"It is certainly an honor and a privilege to represent Team USA at the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, as well as at the Thorpe Cup Combined Events in Germany", stated Reid after the announcement.  "I do not take lightly the responsibility to lead Team USA, with our history and our expectations - it will be an exciting time.  I am looking forward to bringing a lot of years of personal and team coaching to these assignments and continuing the traditions of the best track & field team in the world."

Reid, who just completed his sixth year in charge of the men's and women's track & field teams at La Verne, has received four previous coaching assignments from USA Track & Field.  He led Team USA's Thorpe Cup combined events teams in both 2005 and 2015.  He coached jumps and multis at the 2018 International Association of Athletics Federation (now World Athletics) World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.  He coached the jumps for the men's team at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
