Softball Places Four On All-SCIAC Team

The University of La Verne was represented by four players on the 2013 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Softball Team as announced by the league office.

Junior Raven Freret (first base), sophomore Danielle Vela (second base) and freshman Katherine Kibbe (utlity) were First Team selections while junior Candice Nunez (third base) earned a spot on the All-SCIAC Second Team.

Freret ranked second in the conference in batting average at .466 during the regular season and hit five homers on the season to tie for fourth overall in the league.  She also has registered a conference-best 16 doubles en route to earning First Team All-Conference accolades for the third consecutive year. 

Vela also hit above .400 with a .403 average to rank seventh among SCIAC leaders at the conclusion of the regular season.  She successfully transitioned to the leadoff spot for the Leopards and her 32 runs scored topped the squad. 

Kibbe belted a team high six homers, good for third among SCIAC leaders, and batted .350 on the year.  She also posted a team-high victories as a pitcher, sporting an overall record of 10-2 with a 3.10 earned run average during the regular season.

Nunez was a steady and consistent performance at the third base position for the Leos.  She started in each the Leopards' 36 regular season games and batted .349 during the regular season with five doubles and 19 runs batted in during the regular season.

La Verne finished fourth in the conference standings to earn a berth in the 2013 SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
