For the University of La Verne, this decision affects the following sports: men's and women's soccer, men's water polo, football, volleyball, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's swimming & diving, and men's and women's basketball.
The SCIAC and the University of La Verne remain committed to exploring meaningful competitive conference experiences for spring sport student-athletes later in the spring semester.
"Although we know this announcement is disappointing to our student-athletes and coaches, it has been made in the best interest for the health and well-being of all members of the La Verne and SCIAC communities," said University of La Verne Director of Athletics Scott Winterburn. "Since March when spring sports were paused and ultimately cancelled, our mission has been to serve all of our students who make the University of La Verne their home the best ways we can.
"Throughout this turbulent and strange year, our student-athletes and athletic staff have displayed incredible strength, patience, and perseverance that is to be commended. With today's news, we ask the members of the Leopard athletic community to continue to demonstrate their courage and determination as we navigate this challenging time together."
As the pandemic evolves, the SCIAC and the University of La Verne will continue to monitor changing federal, state, and local guidance, and will continue to consult with each other as well as public health authorities.
