Football faces Sagehens in final road game

The University of La Verne football team looks to end a three-game skid when they head down the road to face the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens.

The Details:

Kickoff: 7 p.m.

Stadium: Merritt Field, Claremont, Calif. (Pomona College campus)

La Verne (2-4, 1-3 SCIAC); Complete ScheduleRoster

Pomona-Pitzer (2-4, 1-3 SCIAC); Complete ScheduleRoster

Coach's Corner:

Hal and Coach Krich discuss tomorrow's game against the Sagehens. Seniors Michael Medina and Alex Olivas join Hal on set.

The Match-Up:

This one looks good on paper. Both teams come into the game with identical overall and conference records. The Sagehens can move the ball and are averaging 476 yards per game.

But the Leopards are led by a defense that gives up the least amount of yards per game in the SCIAC.

Both teams are coming off losses and looking to gain some momentum heading into the final week of the season.

Last Season:

The Leopards lost a close 21-20 game last season against the Sagehens.

Recent Series:

La Verne owns the recent series against Pomona-Pitzer 3-2, with the Leopards last winning 49-35 in 2015 at Merritt Field.

Who to Watch:

Look for Medina to carry the load for the Leopards. Pomona-Pitzer is giving up over 200 yards on the ground per game in SCIAC play, so Medina has a chance to make a big impact in the contest.

Aseal Birir will be leading the charge for the Sagehens. The senior leads the SCIAC with 12 touchdowns and ranks second in both total rushing yards (725) and yards per game (120.8).
