LA VERNE, CA — Six members of the University of La Verne football team have earned All-SCIAC honors, the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference announced Thursday morning.

James Gonsalves, Martaveous Holliday, Trevor Goulet, Austin Brown, Preston Carr, and Jordan Peevy were all named Second Team All-SCIAC.

Gonsalves and Holliday carried the load for the Leopards out of the backfield all season. The duo both finished in the top-five in the conference in total yards and in the top-six in yards per game. Gonsalves finished with 848 total yards and tied for the second most rushing touchdowns in the SCIAC with eight. The junior ran for over 100 yards in four games and had his best individual performance in a 42-23 thrashing at Whittier where he totaled three touchdowns and 182 rushing yards.

Holliday finished with 634 yards on the ground bolstered by three games over the century mark. The junior made a huge contribution in a road win at Cal Lutheran, rushing for 118 yards and a score.

Left tackle Goulet helped pave the way for the pair of running backs and put the Leopards atop the SCIAC in every rushing category. La Verne finished with the most yards on the ground (2,229), most rushing yards per game (247.7), most yards per rush (5.6), and most rushing touchdowns (21) in no small part due to the big men up front led by Goulet. Just a sophomore, expect Goulet to continue to be the centerpiece of the offensive line.

Defensively, senior Austin Brown continued to lead the unit for the Leopards, earning All-SCIAC recognition for the third year in a row. The defensive end finished second in the conference in both sacks with 6.5 and tackles for losses with 12. Brown finished the year with 41 total tackles and one forced fumble.

Carr had an outstanding debut season for the Leopards. The linebacker ranked third on the Leopards' squad with 50 total tackles including five for losses. The Leopards gave up the third fewest rushing yards per game in the SCIAC. 

Peevy also had a great first year wearing the orange and green. The junior transfer tied for first in the SCIAC with two forced fumbles and finished with two interceptions, seven pass breakups, and 29 total tackles. His biggest play of the season came in the closing seconds of the Leopards' game against the Kingsmen. The cornerback made a leaping interception at the one yard line to seal the Leopards' win.

Out of the six, the Leopards only lose Brown to graduation.
