LA VERNE, CA — The University of La Verne football travels to William Rolland Stadium on Oct. 2 to take on the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen. The Leos look to build off a solid defensive performance in their last game against Pacific Lutheran and play complementary football to secure the win against the Kingsmen.

It should be a competitive game against a Cal Lutheran squad that is riding high at 3-0, especially after scoring 22 points in the fourth quarter to beat the University of Puget Sound 25-21.

The Leopards will look again to KJ Macatiag, Mason Montanez, Tyler Le, and Vitale Afoa for big performances on the defensive side of the ball. Another great performance from the freshman Afoa would be a good sign of his development as a building block for the future of the program. The linebacker from Hawaii is second on the team in tackles against the Lutes with 10, including one tackle for a loss.

La Verne will be looking to get the offense back to performing as it did in the season opener. The Leo offense has averaged 18.5 points in their last two games since scoring 42 points against Whittier College in the season opener. La Verne's offense should feature a steady rushing attack led by Able Cueva against the Kingsmen. Cueva had a sound game against Pacific Lutheran rushing for 79 yards on 15 carries with one touchdown. The Leopards will look to reenergize its passing attack from quarterbacks Miguel Aguerro Jr. and Tyrone Williams Jr. after being held to a combined 182 yards on 38 attempts last time out.

The Leos should keep an eye on the receiving duo of Cameron Jones and James Holland who were explosive in the passing game for the Kingsmen in their last game. The duo did not have many receptions but made the most of them as they averaged 28.8 and 20 yards per catch respectively.

The game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm kickoff on Nov. 2 at William Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks.
