Men's Basketball Earns NABC Team Academic Award

KANSAS CITY, MO — The University of La Verne men's basketball team has earned an NABC Team Academic Excellence Award the National Association of Basketball Coaches announced. 

Despite not seeing action on the court during the 2020-21 season, the Leopards still excelled in the classroom. The NABC recognizes outstanding academic achievement by honoring teams that earn a cumulative team grade point average of 3.0 or better.

In addition to the team accolades, seven individuals were named to the NABC Honors Court which recognizes men's collegiate basketball student-athletes who excelled in academics. To be recognized, student-athletes must academically be a junior or senior and have a GPA of 3.2 or higher. The squad has placed at least three student-athletes on the NABC Honors Court for eight consecutive years.

About the NABC

Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the NABC was founded in 1927 by Phog Allen, the legendary basketball coach at the University of Kansas. Allen, a student of James Naismith, the inventor of basketball, organized coaches into this collective group to serve as Guardians of the Game. The NABC currently has nearly 5,000 members consisting primarily of university and college men's basketball coaches. The four core values of being a Guardian of the Game are advocacy, leadership, service, and education.
