NEW ORLEANS — Bryan Hayes and Tanner Long of the University of La Verne men's cross country team have been named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III All-Academic Team for the second year in a row.
To qualify for the team, honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or greater and must have finished among the top 25 percent of finishers at their regional championships.
Hayes, a Physics major and a First Team All-SCIAC selection, is sporting a 3.49 GPA. The junior finished 15th in the 2014 West Regionals and qualified for the NCAA National Championships for second consecutive year.
Long, a sophomore biology major, has a 3.66 GPA and finished 21st at the regionals to garner All-West Region honors as well.
In addition to Hayes' and Long's individual honors, both the men's and the women's team were recognized as All-Academic Teams.
To be considered an All-Academic Team, programs must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or greater and competed in at least five different meets with at least five different runners representing their school at each.
The men had a 3.15 GPA while the women posted 3.25.
