LA VERNE, Calif. — The University of La Verne softball team partnered with the Pomona Valley Wildcats Special Olympics team to host a clinic at Campus West last weekend.
The Leopards and the Pomona Valley Wildcats have been working together for the past eight years.
"We love working with the Special Olympics," said Leopards' Head Coach Julie Smith. "It gives our players an opportunity to teach and give back to a highly respected organization."
The Wildcats brought two teams to the clinic where they participated in hitting drills in the batting cages and defensive drills in the field led by the Leopards. Much of the day was spent on situational play to help prepare the Wildcats for their opening tournament coming up this weekend.
Along with the annual clinic, the Wildcats also use the Campus West field in the fall for practice as part of the teams' partnership.
"Some of our players have never worked with Special Olympics, so this experience was very rewarding and humbling for them," said Smith. "Everyone walked away with a huge smile after our clinic."
The Leopards and Wildcats hope to continue to build and grow their relationship.
