THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — Carly Condon finished the day with four RBI and four hits and the University of La Verne softball team swept the Cal Luthern Regals Friday afternoon on the road.
Season Impact: The Leopards have been on a roll, winning five in a row and six of their last seven. La Verne improves to 19-11 overall and 14-4 in the SCIAC. Cal Lutheran drops to 11-19 overall and 4-14 in conference play.
Game One: La Verne 3, Cal Lutheran 2
The Leopards scored a run in each of the first three innings to take game one.
Jiana Rojo was solid on the mound, earning a complete game win, striking out five with no walks while allowing just five hits.
Sienna Kendricks got La Verne on the board with two outs in the first inning with a single to left that scored Shelby Tevis.
Condon added a sacrifice bunt the Leopards' next time out and Angelica DeAngelo singled in Kendricks in the third.
Game Two: La Verne 7, Cal Lutheran 6 (8 innings)
Tied 5-5 in the eighth, Condon stepped up to bat with Rachel Ogata and Toni Lozano in scoring position and tripled to right center, bringing in the runners for the 7-5 lead. La Verne held on in the bottom half of the inning to complete the sweep.
Condon finished the game with three hits and three RBI.
Mikaya Mendoza, Justice Borden, and Ogata each finished with an RBI. Tevis and Ogata added a pair of hits.
La Verne swiped four bases in the game.
Ashley Caro picked up the win pitching one and two-thirds innings of relief.
Next Series: The Leopards return home tomorrow to host Pomona-Pitzer in a key doubleheader beginning at noon. The Sagehens are currently in first place in the SCIAC with a 15-5 conference record.
