Women's Golf wraps up season at SCIAC Championships

BEAUMONT, Calif. — The University of La Verne women's golf team wrapped up its first full season with a seventh place finish at the 2016 SCIAC Women's Golf Championships held at Oak Valley Golf Club.

Kirsten Contreras, as she has all season, paced the Leopards' efforts. The Beaumont native shot a team-low 249 over three rounds and finished tied for 19th individually.

Morgan Malloy finished 34th overall with a total of 276. She kicked off the tournament with a 99 in the first round, but cut 13 strokes in the second round to come in with a 86 on Monday and carded a 91 in the final round.

Valerie Lopez finished with a total of 298 (104-97-97) to finish 36th overall and Jillian Hughes completed the scoring for La Verne with a total of 311 (104-105-102). Nadirah Fatah rounded out La Verne's lineup with a total score of 351.

Redlands claimed the team championship (309-316-304=929) and the Bulldogs' Caroline Ordian won the individual medalist honors (77-75-72=224).

The women's program officially launched in 2013 but it hasn't fielded a full squad until this year under head coach Eric Riehle. With the program in full gear and another recruiting class coming in, the possibilities are limitless for the Leopards in the coming years.
