Leopards Take Two On Second Day of Posada Royale Tournament

University of La Verne women's water polo has captured three of their last four matches, bouncing back from a tournament opening loss against NAIA opponent Cal Baptist to defeat Villanova while notching another pair of wins against Caltech and Fresno Pacific Saturday afternoon at the Posada Royale Tournament hosted by Cal Lutheran University.

The La Verne offensive attack would start off quiet in game one against the Beavers of Caltech but would sound off in the second quarter hitting the back of the net eight times to take a commanding 8-0 lead heading into halftime.  Alex Gudeneau would provide the Leopards with three goals in the second stanza en route to her four goal match.  After the half, the La Verne attack would remain constant tacking on an additional eight goals and holding the Beaver to six to secure a 16-6 victory.

Along with Gudeneau, Katie Lacek, Ryanne Bible, and Nicole Tuning all recorded multi-goal matches.  Lauren Shepherd provided plenty of support in front of the net, capturing five saves in the Leopard victory.

In the day's second match, the Leopards faced off against Fresno Pacific in a defensive struggle that would result in a 3-2 victory for La Verne.  Gudeneau and Justine Mojarrio would give the Leopards a 2-0 edge in the first half.  Fresno Pacific would pressure late in the fourth quarter but the Leopard defense would persist and hold on for the victory.

"We gave a really good defensive effort all around, putting us in the position to win" said Leopard head coach Alex La.  La Verne has now won three straight and improves to 3-3 on the year.

The Leopards continue action at the Posada Royale Tournament on Sunday when they face off against Whittier and Cal State East Bay.
