The University of La Verne baseball team opened the final round of conference play by defeating Pomona-Pitzer 5-1 in SCIAC action Friday afternoon in Claremont.

Senior Mark Larini earned the win on the mound for the Leopards, his fourth of the season, as La Verne captured three of the four games against the SCIAC defending champions.

La Verne improves to 16-6 in SCIAC and 21-12 overall, putting them in second place in conference play behind Redlands.
