Leopards Take Two From Kingsmen

The University of La Verne earned a doubleheader sweep over Cal Lutheran in SCIAC baseball action by scores of 7-5 and 8-0 in the opening two games of the series Saturday at Ben Hines Field.

In the first game, the Leopards (15-10, 10-4 SCIAC) broke a 3-3 tie with four runs in the bottom of the eighth highlighted by a key 3-run double from Sergio Munoz to seize a 7-3 lead.  The Leos broke a 3-3 tie on a single from Jason Munoz to score Jason Moralez with the go-ahead run.

Cal Lutheran threatened in the top of the 9th with two runs and had runners on second and third with two out before reliever Sean Faisig retired the final two batters on strikeouts to end the game. 

Donovan Petta smacked a solo homer in the bottom of the fifth to give the Leopards a 3-2 lead.  

Matt Baudino paced the Leos in the second game with a complete-game five-hitter while striking out 10 batters en route to his fourth win of the season.  Baudino was aided by a Leopard offense that plated two runs in the first, fifth, seventh and eighth innings.
