Ludvik's Walk Off Single Leads Leos to Victory

The University of La Verne baseball team earned a 5-4 walk off win over the Occidental College Tigers in SCIAC action on Saturday afternoon at Ben Hines Field.

With the game tied 4-4 in the bottom of the ninth, and two outs on the board, Jacob Ludvik hit a single to left field to score Mark Larini with the winning run for the Leopards.

La Verne was leading 1-0 after scoring a run in the first inning off an Oxy throwing error. Both teams scored a run in both the fourth and fifth innings giving the Leopards a 3-2 advantage.

Oxy's Pedro Aldape homered over the left field wall in the sixth inning to tie the game at 3-3. After Dale Garrett walked, Smith doubled to left center to score again putting the Tigers on top 4-3.

The Leos would come back in the seventh inning for the third tie of the game. With the bases loaded, Brian Tuttle grounded into a double play allowing Aaron Coopman to score from third base to knot the contest at 4-4. Ludvik's walk off single in the ninth would lead to the Leopard victory.

Donovan Petta went 3-4 at the plate with a stolen base. Jason Munoz was 2-4 with two runs scored.

Sean Fasig earned the win for La Verne after coming in for relief in the eighth inning. The loss went to Oxy's Brooks Belter.

The Leopards improve to 23-14 overall and 18-8 in SCIAC and won the season series against the Tigers 3-1 in the four games.

La Verne will play host to Caltech on Friday for their final home game of the season. The game will begin at 3:00 pm at Ben Hines Field.
