Gonsalves, Gillon qualify for NCAA National Championships

INDIANAPOLIS — Nick Gonsalves and Tiahna Gillon of the University of La Verne track and field teams are headed to the 2015 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championships, hosted by St. Lawrence at Canton, N.Y., on May 21-23.

Gonsalves, who won the 2014 championship in the 4x100 meters relay, makes his first trip as an individual. The junior sprinter qualified for the 100 meters after posting a school-record time of 10.66 seconds at the 2015 SCIAC Championship, placing second. His time ranks 14th in the nation on the men's side going into the championship.

Gillon, a sophomore, qualified for the 100 meters for the women's championship and is also ranked 14th. Gillon won the 100 meters at the SCIAC Championship in a school-record time of 12.02. Gillon is competing for the first time as an individual after racing the 4x100m relay at last year's championships.

For each men's individual event contested, including the decathlon, the top 20 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each women's individual event contested, including the heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition.
