The University of La Verne women's swimming & diving team has been rewarded with a Team Scholar All-America Award by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA).  Additionally, sophomore Madeline Lovrensky was named to the Scholar All-America First Team.

The Leopard women's team posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 during the 2012-13 to receive CSCAA Division III Scholar All-America accolades.

"It was great to see the large group of incoming freshmen we had this season step up and excel in the pool and in the classroom," said Leopard head coach Pat Skehan.  "Their efforts were recognized by this honor and reflects positively on our future."

Lovrensky earns Scholar All-America First Team recognition after an outstanding season in which she earned All-America honors in the 100 yard backstroke, finishing sixth at the NCAA Division III Championships in March.  In addition, Lovrensky set a SCIAC record in the 200 yard backstroke at the NCAA meet.  She also captured both the 100 and 200 backstroke events at the SCIAC Championships.  Lovrensky was also a finalist for the Elite 89 Award this year which recognizes both academic and athletic excellence.

The Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimmers and divers, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, for the semester or cumulative average, and have qualified for and competed at their respective national championship.

"For Maddie, it's one more step in her growing list of achievements," Skehan added.   "For her to excel at this high level both athletically and academically is truly phenomenal."
