Shaw Named a "Responsible Leader" Recipient

EDMONDS, Wash. – The University of La Verne head women's basketball coach Julie Shaw has been named a "Responsible Leader" for the month of January 2014 by Resportsibility.

FULL RELEASE

Shaw was recognized for engaging in fair and inclusive practice as a coach on the court, but also among her colleagues.

In her first season at the helm of the program, Shaw led the Leopards to a 13-12 overall record and an 8-8 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) record without two of her best players for much of the season.

Shaw mentored sophomore center Emily Myers to a breakout season in which Myers averaged 12.4 points and 7.0 rebounds per game after posting 3.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in her rookie campaign.

As a team, La Verne led the SCIAC in offensive rebounds with 14.9 per game and was 3rd in the league in 3-point shooting.
