Trio Named to Academic All-SCIAC Team

PASADENA, Calif. – Junior guard Riki Murakami, sophomore forward Diana Peña and sophomore guard Shannon Irwin of the University of La Verne women's basketball team were named to the Academic All-SCIAC team, the conference office announced on Thursday.

Murakami played in all 25 games and averaged 4.7 points, 3.4 assists and 2.3 rebounds. She also shot 74 percent fom the charity stripe.

Irwin played in 22 games—started in 16 of them—and averaged 7.2 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists this past season.

Peña was a valuable contributor off the bench, averaging 2.4 points and 1.5 rebounds. Peña carried the Leopards to a win against Wartburg on Dec. 21, scoring eight of her 11 points in overtime.

To be eligible, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.40 cumulative grade point average at his/her current institution, must have completed one full calendar year at his/her current institution, and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility. In the case of transfers, graduate students, and two-year college graduates, the student-athlete must have completed one full calendar year at the nominating institution.
