University of La Verne volleyball has announced its schedule for the 2011 season. La Verne plays a total of 26 regular-season matches including 11 contests at home. Additionally, the Leopards face three NCAA Tournament teams during its non-conference portion of the schedule.
The Leopards will begin the 2011 campaign with four matches at the Pacific Coast Classic Tournament in Claremont on September 2-3.
Among the non-conference matchups this season include Wartburg, Puget Sound and Whitworth, each of whom reached the 2010 NCAA Tournament.
The ever-improving SCIAC should be competitive again this season as six of the league squads won at least 18 matches in 2010.
"The SCIAC features several teams competing at the national level who have legitimate postseason aspirations," said Leopard head coach Jenna Panatier. "Our conference is stronger than ever, and we took that into consideration as we prepared our non-conference competition schedule. Playing several solid regionally-ranked teams, our non-conference schedule will unquestionably prepare us for SCIAC play."
La Verne opens conference play on September 22 at Caltech. The following night (Sept. 23) the Leos make their 2011 home debut against Chapman.
Chapman makes a second appearance at Frantz Athletic Court as part of the Leopard Invitational Tournament held October 7-8, when the Leos also host Greensboro (N.C.) College and UC Santa Cruz.
The Leopards finished 19-11 overall last season, earning a third-place finish in SCIAC play with an 8-6 mark.
