LONG BEACH — The La Verne Women's Water Polo team opened up its season with a double header Sunday, Jan. 23 at the Beach Invite at Cal St. Long Beach. The Leos fell to the Biola Eagles 16-7 and 12-6 against the Whittier Poets.
A trio of Leos scored two goals apiece in the Biola matchup. Nanea Mattson, Sumi Rudisky and Kelly Riedel collected six of La Verne's seven scores. Riedel converted on both of her shots, and finished the game at a 100% clip.
Sage Nowell added two assists to the Leos ledger, and goalie Kate Carlyle finished with seven saves.
The Leos next play at the Macalester Invite in St. Paul Minnesota. They will play four games between Feb. 19 and 20, against teams from across the nation.
