Leopards Compete In The 2023 Convergence Tournament

La Verne, CA - During the annual Convergence Tournament, the University of La Verne women's water polo team had their season home openers this weekend.

La Verne had four opponents this weekend, playing Fresno Pacific University, Mt St. Mary's University, Iona College, and Penn St. Behrend College over the two days. For game one, the Leopards would fall to the Sunbirds by a score of 13-11 after consistent lead changes during the match. La Verne's offense was well-balanced, with three players with three goals each. Kate Carlyle had seven saves for the game. In the final match of day one, La Verne would face off against Mt St. Mary's College, a formidable opponent who would make a run in the second quarter, holding the Leopards to one goal in the second quarter. La Verne would try and come back in the third quarter but would fall to the Athenas 14-11. Briana Zapata would lead the Leopards with four goals and one assist.

On day two, La Verne took on Iona University; the Leopards would face another evenly-matched opponent. After a hard-fought battle throughout four quarters, the Leopards would fall to the Gaels by a score of 17-15. Jassmine Kezman would lead the Leopards with three goals. Kate Carlyle would have 11 saves for the game at a .393 percentage.

For the tournament's final match, La Verne took on Penn State Behrend College. The Leopards would get off to a great start scoring eight goals in the first quarter, and the Lions would attempt a comeback in the fourth quarter but were no match for La Verne. Maddie Grove, Olivia Taylor, and Nancy Trinh each contributed three goals in the Leopard's win by a score of 17-8.

La Verne will host Claremont Mudd Scripps for their conference opener Wednesday, March 8th, at Las Flores Park at 4 PM
