Leopards Take On Sagehens In SCIAC Match-Up

Claremont, CA - The University of La Verne women's water polo team traveled to Claremont, California to take on the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in a midweek SCIAC match-up.

La Verne came into the contest seeking their second conference win in a row after defeating Cal Lutheran in a home match this past weekend. 

The Leopards started the contest falling behind early to the Sagehens, as Pomona-Pitzer would score 6 goals in the opening quarter to take a 6-2 lead. Maddie Grove would score the Leopards first goal of the game and Nancy Trinh would score another for the Leopards near the two-minute mark of the opening quarter. Maddie Grove would score another goal for La Verne at the 2:03 mark of the second quarter to close the gap at halftime to 8-3.

Only allowing two goals scored in the third quarter, the Leopards would put together a furious run in the fourth quarter, scoring four goals, but allow Pomona Pitzer to score five goals, falling to the Sagehens by a final score of 15-8.

Maddie Grove would lead the Leopards scoring 3 goals in the match. Brianna Zapata would score two goals while Kate Carlyle would have 7 saves in the game. ULV returns to action Friday, March 24th at Westcliff University.
