Temesgen Kflom Berhe Sets  University of La Verne School Record In The 5000m

Los Angeles, California - The University of La Verne track and field team, fresh off of a successful weekend at the SCIAC Championships, traveled to Occidental College for the annual Oxy Invitational.

The groundbreaking performance of the day would come from Temesgen Kflom Berhe. Berhe set a new University of La Verne school record in the 5000m. He covered over three miles of Southern California real estate in 14:33.03. Before Berhe's record-setting efforts, Zackery Deering-Haddix cleared 2.03m (6' 8") in the High Jump, to put himself in the running for an NCAA Championship bid. Several other Leopards competed at a high level on the day and set or eclipsed personal records.

  • Zachary Reid 110mHH - continues to stay in the conversation for an NCAA entry with another event win and solid performance of 14.69 in the 110m High Hurdles
  • Austin Haines - kept his personal best streak alive, with the third consecutive personal best in the 400m.
  • Dante Carter - after working all season to break the eleven-second barrier, in his third consecutive 100m race, the Sophomore ran under eleven seconds with his performance of 10.94
  • Efren Martin - recorded another personal record effort for the 2022 season in the 5000m
  • David Lara - recorded the second-best effort of his career in the javelin, while winning the event.
  • In the Women's High Jump, the group of Ha'ani Untalan, Olivia Magby and Mira Juncaj continued to impress with their performances. The lady Leopards all cleared 1.50m, as they chase higher post-season performances. 

The Leopards will continue their post-season preparations for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Qualifier on May 13th-14th.
