LA VERNE, Calif. — Lukas Granado hit a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth to pull the University of La Verne baseball team even with Rutgers-Newark and send the game into the 10th inning.

But the Scarlet Raiders scored a pair of runs in the top of the 10th to seal the game on a rainy Tuesday afternoon at Ben Hines Field.

The Leopards and Scarlet Raiders kept the ball in play all day with each squad finishing with 15 hits apiece.

Granado finished the game 3-3 at the plate with two runs. Nicholas Michaels finished the day with three hits and a run scored.

Right fielder Christopher Ligot added a pair of RBI.

La Verne had a shot to extend the game in 10th after Gabe Lopez and Jakob Thomas each drew walks and Andy Martinez was hit by a pitch. But Christopher Peres hit into a double plate to end the game.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh inning with Rutgers-Newark leading 8-4, the Leopards rallied for three runs to get to within one run. Brandon Vogel started off the scoring with an RBI single center that brought in catcher Adam Santa Cruz.

Shortstop Jacob Benson then hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing in Grant Thompson. An error by the Scarlet Raiders sent Granado across the plate, putting the score at 8-7.

Thomas and Vogel each finished the game with two hits. Gabe Lopez hit a solo home run to right field in the sixth.

Season Impact: The Leopards drop to 9-8 overall. Rutgers-Newark improves to 5-4.
