La Verne Trio Named to NABC Honors Court

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Juniors Niall Harrison, Brett Stephan and Josiah Sukumaran of the University of La Verne men's basketball team were named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for excelling in the classroom during the past season.

The trio was among a record number of 895 student-athletes from 335 colleges and universities across all NCAA divisions and NAIA to earn the recognition.

Harrison started all 25 games for the Leopards and led the team with 4.9 rebounds per game to go along with 6.8 points.

Sukumaran was one of the first players off the bench for head coach Rich Reed's squad, playing in all 25 games. The Kailua, Hawaii, native averaged 3.5 rebounds and 3.3 points on 54 percent shooting.

Stephan was on his way to a breakout season before an injury cut his season short. In eight games, the San Diego native averaged 9.9 points on 57.8 percent shooting.

In order to be named to the Honors Court, a student-athlete must meet a high standard of academic criteria. Nominees must be academically a junior or a senior and a varsity player, must possess cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher and must have completed at least one year at his current institution.
