Hayes breaks 10k record at Mt. SAC Relays

WALNUT, Calif. — Bryan Hayes of the University of La Verne men's track and field team broke the school record in the 10,000 meters at the 57th annual Mt. San Antonio College Relays, finishing the Open B section of the race with a time of 30 minutes, 48.65 seconds.

He finished 17th overall among a field full of NCAA Division I and international team runners and was the second Division III finisher behind Cole Decker of Central, who finished the race in 30:14.82.

Hayes' time was nearly two minutes faster than the previous record of 32:47.50, set by Matthew Sustaya '13 in 2013.

Hayes currently ranks seventh in Division III and has emerged as one of the favorites to become the inaugural winner of the 10,000 meters at the 2015 SCIAC Championships. The event was added to the championships this year.
