NEW ORLEANS — The University of La Verne men's and women's track and field teams were named an All-Academic Team by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Friday. In addition, Tiahna Gillon was recognized as an All-Academic individual on the women's side while Bryan Hayes and Jason Nicholls earned the honors for the men.
In order to earn All-Academic Team honors, teams must must post a cumulative GPA of 3.10 or higher. A total of 170 women's teams and 99 men's teams earned the distinction as a result of earning a cumulative team GPA of 3.10 or higher.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Indvidual Teams, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.30 and have met either of the following academic standards:
- Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 25 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org
Hayes and Nicholls placed their names among 297 male honorees and Gillon was one of 420 women.
