THOUSAND OAKS — After having their doubleheader against Redlands cancelled, the University of La Verne softball team was back in action Friday afternoon against Cal Lutheran and they did not miss a beat, cruising to a 14-1 five-inning win.
Marissa Acosta was perfect at the plate for the Leopards, finishing the game 4-4 with four RBIs, four runs, and a double.
Bailey Grani also got the offense going finishing with four RBIs. Alyssa Molina added two RBIs and a run. The Leopards finished with 18 hits in the win.
The Leopards got on the board in the top of the first inning when Jocelyn Robertson singled in Acosta to give them a 1-0 lead. La Verne followed it up with a five-run second inning led by a bases-clearing triple by Acosta.
La Verne added six runs in the fourth inning capped off by a double by Molina that scored Mia Pintado and Cailin Bliss to make the score 12-1. Grani added a two-run double in the fifth inning making the score 14-1.
Robertson pitched all five innings for La Verne allowing only one run on four hits to pick up her second win of the season. Robertson also got the job done offensively finishing with two RBIs, two hits, and a walk.
Linda Gherir and senior Tauney Mack finished with identical numbers at the plate each totaling two hits, two runs, and an RBI.
Cal Lutheran scored their only run in the bottom of the second when Natalie Luna came home on an RBI single by Jamie Bingaman cutting La Verne's lead to 6-1.
Season Impact
La Verne improved to 2-2 on the season and 2-2 in the SCIAC. Cal Lutheran falls to 1-12 overall and 1-12 in the SCIAC.

The Leopards hosts a doubleheader against Cal Lutheran this Sunday at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
