LA VERNE, CA — Marissa Acosta and Subdue Ezinwa have been tabbed SCIAC Athletes of the Week the Southern California Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference announced Monday.

Acosta picks up SCIAC Softball Hitter of the Week honors after her unstoppable performance at the plate in a three-game series against Cal Lutheran. The sophomore put on an offensive exhibition leading the Leopards with seven RBIs and eight hits, including a triple and double in a pair of wins. She also crossed the plate seven times and drew two walks in the series. La Verne outscored Cal Lutheran 28-8 in the two wins. 

Ezinwa earns the SCIAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors after winning the SCIAC Championship in the discus and placing second in the shot put last weekend at the SCIAC Track and Field Championships.

Ezinwa made this way to the top of the podium in the discus, the first SCIAC Championship of his career, with a throw of 134'0" (40.84m) beating out the closest competitor by four inches. His throw of 41' 3¼" (12.58m) in the shot put placed him second in the event.

The La Verne men's track and field squad returns to action on Friday at the APU Last Chance meet. Leopard softball will travel to Chapman on Friday for the opening game of the SCIAC Postseason Tournament at 2 p.m.
