XC Competes at Connecticut College Invitational

WATERFORD, CT — Both La Verne cross country teams participated in the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday in a stacked field that featured eight men's squads and 10 women's squads ranked in the top 35 nationally.

The men's cross country team, ranked eighth in the West Region, wrapped up the invitational with a 14th place finish out of 26 total schools. Michael Sahagun paced the Leos with a 31st place finish and a 25:46.0 time. TK Berhe was the next highest finisher with a 48th place finish and a 26:08.3 time.

Jose Reyes finished next for the Leopards clocking in at 27:35.8. Not far behind was Efren Martin with a time of 27:45.7. Jared Albaugh (28:21.3), Marcelo Martinez (28:40.4), Santiago Herrera (28:46.2), and Edward Carillo (30:01.8) closed out the race for La Verne.

Janelle Baeskens, Rebecca Lee, Andrea Camacho, and Alexia Alvarez represented the women's cross country team in the Caroline Grape '22 Memorial Blue Race. Baeskens tied for a 112th place finish and had a total time of 25:00.8. Lee tied for a 160th place finish and had a total time of 27:23.1. Camacho finished close behind in a tie for 162nd place finish and a 27:30.2 time with Alvarez finishing with a time of 29:06.1.

The Leopards next turn their attention towards the SCIAC Championships. The meet will be hosted on the Pomona College campus on October 30 with the men's race beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the women's race at 9:30 a.m.
